Common Objects and Their Impressions
A Pictorial Reference for Investigators
By Kevin Poorman

You've just found a victim who has three unusual marks on their neck. Would you be able to assess that the weapon used was a serving fork quickly? You might, if you are armed with a copy of IPTM's latest publication, Common Objects, and Their Impressions: A Pictorial Reference for Investigators, by Kevin Poorman.

The book was written to help you take the guesswork out of deciding what type of weapon was used in a particular crime. Mr. Poorman includes images of over 200 common objects and the more than 600 impressions that can be made from the different parts of those weapons.

From wrenches to rolling pins, screws to spoons and hangers to handguns, the author has included a wide array of everyday items that can be used to inflict wounds and death. His book will be useful to forensic pathologists, criminal investigators, crime scene technicians, child abuse investigators, bloodstain pattern analysts, tool mark examiners, forensic dentists, prosecutors and students of the forensic sciences.

Kevin Poorman has been a criminal investigator for 20 years with the US Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He is a court-qualified expert in crime scene processing and crime scene reconstruction. As an adjunct faculty member, Mr. Poorman has taught courses in law enforcement, criminal justice, and forensic sciences at Central Texas College, the University of Maryland and The George Washington University.
