The Successful Oral Interview
for New Hire, Promotion & Transfer in Law Enforcement:
A Guide for Interviewer and Applicant
By Joseph W. Johnson
Have you ever felt like you were the most qualified person for a particular position, only to learn that someone else got that job? Or maybe you were passed over for a promotion or transfer that you felt sure you would get? IPTM's latest publication, The Successful Oral Interview for New Hire, Promotion and Transfer in Law Enforcement: A Guide for Interviewer and Applicant, was written to help you get the job you are going after.
From tips on how to complete a job application and create a résumé to what you should know about the job before the interview, you will find guidelines on topics such as how to dress for the interview, what you need to take with you, how to properly respond to questions and what you should do after the interview. The author, Joseph Johnson, even provides lists of typical questions that may be asked of candidates searching for new jobs, transfers and promotions.
Although primarily written for applicants, employers will find the information in this book useful, as it will help them recognize the signs of a truly qualified candidate. Mr. Johnson has also included questions and tactics that will help the interview panel determine which candidates have the qualities they are seeking.
The author covers all of these matters in the following chapters:
The author, Joseph Johnson, retired with the rank of lieutenant from the Roseville (Michigan) Police Department after serving 26 years in areas that included patrol, traffic, narcotics, intelligence, internal affairs, command and administration. In addition to over 16 years of experience in assessment centers for police recruitment, Mr. Johnson has over 33 years of varied experience as an instructor, coordinator and training director in police training academies and community colleges and has presented police supervision and management programs, seminars and workshops nationally.
